Once again I join in as several of my friends are incredibly frustrated with the church and stances on humanity. I won’t even get started on the whole Chic-Fil-A thing. I could, i guess, but really, what does my opinion on the whole debate matter in the grand scheme of things. What I can say is I’m disgusted that so many more people have been hurt by the church and their vocal stance that borderlines hate toward God’s creation. Did you hear that, church? We are God’s creation! ALL of us! Need I say more?
It doesn’t matter where you stand on the whole “sin/not sin” debate. But I would challenge you that it has everything to do with where you stand on the second greatest commandment: “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” Let me give you an example.
I don’t agree with getting drunk. I don’t like the way it makes people complete idiots, but I can guarantee you that if a friend ever calls for a ride after having too much to drink, I’d be there in a heartbeat, and I wouldn’t lecture them. To me, this is just another way for me to show the love that the Father has lavished on me. Really, if my friend wanted a lecture, I’m sure they could call their parents or something. My job isn’t to be the Holy Spirit and convict my friends of “sins” but to love them in a way that brings them closer to knowing the God I do.
I can’t apologize enough for my “friends” who’ve hurt you. I truly am sorry that you have been shunned and cast out. I want you to know that is not the way of God. He loves you. Truly. He loves you so much there is NOTHING you can do to make him hate you. Really! I want you to know that. And as a child of God, I attempt to love in the same way, but as a human, I fail often and miserably. If we both have patience, both of us can work to knowing that God even better. This journey isn’t meant to be easy, nor is it meant to be taken alone.
Believe me, friends, when I say I truly, truly hurt with you. And I’m so sorry that people who bear the name of Christ and claim to be His followers have hurt you too. Believe me when I say I want to make it better for you. I really do. I pray that someone will show you the love of Christ in an unbiased way that really exhibits his love for you.
May you go always in His peace.
